SCUNTHORPE V LIONS, PREVIEW

LEICESTER kick off another busy weekend with a trip to Scunthorpe in the Championship Jubilee League on Friday.

And the Watling JCB Lions then have the chance to secure top spot in the Championship in Sunday’s big home clash with Berwick (6pm) – with the Lion Cubs racing at Shielfield Park in the KO Cup on Saturday.

The match at the Eddie Wright Raceway offers the Lions an opportunity to hit back from last week’s 51-39 defeat at Redcar which put them on the back foot in the CJL competition.

However, any away win in the section could prove to be decisive, and the Lions have a good record in recent years at the Eddie Wright Raceway, albeit they did lose there in the league on Good Friday.

But they face a very different Scorpions side to that occasion with Jake Allen, Jordan Palin and Tero Aarnio all ruled out due to injury.

The home side operate rider replacement for Allen and bring in Kasper Andersen to guest for Palin, whilst James Wright was recently signed to replace Aarnio. Adam Roynon is another recent addition to the side at reserve.

Lions, meanwhile, are set to return to full strength with Dan Thompson due back after his mandatory 12-day absence due to concussion.

Manager Stewart Dickson said: “We do need to get something from this meeting, otherwise we could find ourselves struggling to get through this section.

“We all want to get to the Final, and looking at the teams for Friday I do feel we should have a chance.

“We can certainly get something there, which would give us a really good opportunity to qualify, but the most important thing is that we come through unscathed because Sunday a home is a really big one.”

SCUNTHORPE: Ryan Douglas, Simon Lambert, Kasper Andersen, James Wright, Jake Allen r/r, Adam Roynon, Zaine Kennedy.
LEICESTER: Nick Morris, Connor Mountain, Richie Worrall, Dan Thompson, Kyle Howarth, Max Clegg, Joe Thompson.
